Nepal Vehicle Mass Emission Standards 2069 (2012)

A. Limit Values for Type Approval (TA) and Conformity of Production (CoP) for vehicles Fueled with Gasoline (Positive Ignition Engines)

1. For Vehicles (Passenger cars) with up to six seats and Gross vehicle Weight (GVW) less than 2.5 tons

1.1 Type 1 Test: (Verifying exhaust emissions)

Note: The driving cycle adopted by the vehicle manufacturing countries in accordance with the principles of Euro III driving cycle will be accepted.
**If the volume swept by the engine is lesser than 0.75 liter per cylinder and a rated power speed of more than 3000 RPM, then the maximum PM emission level is 0. 13 / khz.

3.2 Type 2 Test: (Smoke Capacity Test)

Carbon Monoxide Limit values with catalytic converter
At idle speed ≤ 0.3% by volume
At increased idle speed (>2000 rpm) ≤ 0.2% by volume and λ = 1±0.03

1.3 Type 3 Test: (Emissions of crankcase gases)
No emission or expulsion of crankcase gases is permitted.

1.4 Type 4 Test: (Determination of Evaporative Emission)
Annual evaporative emissions shall be less than two grams per test

1.5 Type 5 Test: (Durability of Pollution Control Devices)
This represents ageing test of 80,000 kilometer driven on road or on chassis dynamometer or 5 years life span of devices, whichever occurs first. The provision of recognizing deterioration factor obtained from its alternative test shall be as mentioned in no.5 of the explanatory notes section.

1.6 Type 6 Test* (Low temperature test)

2. For Light duty Commercial Vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weight more than 2.5 tons
2.1 Type 1 Test: (Verifying exhaust emissions)

Note:
-The driving cycle adopted by the vehicle manufacturing countries in accordance with the principles of Euro III driving cycle will be accepted.
-RM signifies reference mass that represents unloaded vehicles with no driver and passengers but having full tank fuel with tools and spare tire adding another extra 100 kg weight or relative weight.

2.2 Type 2 Test: (Carbon Monoxide Emission)

Carbon Monoxide Limit values with catalytic converter
- At idle speed ≤ 0.3% by volume - At increased idle speed (>2000 rpm) =0.2% by volume and λ, = 1±0.03

3. Two and Three wheelers vehicles (Gasoline):

3.1 Type 1 Test: (Verifying exhaust emissions)

For two wheelers:

Alternatively, in case of combined mass of Hydrocarbon (HC) and Nitrogen Oxide (HC+NOx) limit, the following limit values shall be accepted:

3.2 Type 2 Test-Carbon Monoxide Emission at idling speed:
The emission of carbon monoxide at the idling speed must not exceed by volume more than 3.5%

3.3 Type 3 Test-Emissions of crankcase gases:
No emission or expulsion of crankcase gases is permitted.

3.4 Type 4 Test-Determination of Evaporative Emission:
Annual evaporative emissions shall be less than two grams per test.

3.5 Type 5 Test- Durability of Pollution Control Devices:
This represents ageing test of 30,000 kilometer driven on road or on chassis dynamometer or 5 years life span of devices, whichever occurs first. The provision of recognizing deterioration factor obtained from its alternative test shall be as mentioned in no.5 of the explanatory notes section.

Though the Euro III equivalent standards are to be adopted, in case of vehicles produced in and imported from the countries where all the tests from 3.1 to 3.5 do not apply, then only those tests which are applicable in those countries shall apply with regard to those vehicles.
